Basalt Underpass - Homes for Sale in Basalt
If you’re thinking of buying a home in the Roaring Fork Valley, Basalt may be the perfect place for you.
Basalt is a beautiful, historic town with a population of nearly 4,000 people. With activities such as cross-country skiing and mountain biking, residents are able to enjoy the outdoors—and stay busy—all year.
There’s just so much to do and see in this charming, friendly town—and the city is consistently making it easier for residents to enjoy their own neighborhoods.
As more and more people are utilizing public transportation and even their own two feet to get in and around Aspen, the surrounding areas are stepping up their game to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians.

The New Basalt Underpass

The town of Basalt encourages alternate modes of transit and is creating a pedestrian underpass, which will allow residents and visitors safe passage, as well as decrease traffic tie-ups.
The construction of the underpass beneath CO-82 is underway, and it’s scheduled for completion by October 2017.
With pedestrian safety in mind, the Basalt underpass will alleviate major pedestrian crossing at Highway 82 and Basalt Avenue. Highway 82, once a two-lane highway, has grown to four lanes to keep pace with the growing population; now, it’s a busy intersection that’s tough to cross. With elementary, middle and high schools at this major junction, the Basalt underpass will allow students a much safer commute.
