aspen ride for the pass - aspen homes for sale
An annual event for Aspen bicyclists of all stripes, the 2016 Ride for the Pass begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21. The ride along scenic Highway 82 begins at Winter Gate, just 5 miles east of Aspen.
The Ride for the Pass allows cyclists to enjoy the vast panoramic views of the Highway 82 Scenic Byway before the road opens to vehicle traffic for the summer season. Proceeds from the ride benefit the Independence Pass Foundation’s restoration work on the pass.

New This Year: 2-Mile Recreational Ride

This year’s event includes a new, family-friendly addition: a leisurely, non-competitive ride from the Winter Gate starting line to the Weller Lake turnout. This gives more riders a chance to enjoy the quiet, pristine beauty of Independence Pass in the spring.
If 10 miles of mountain roads is more strenuous than you’d like to attempt, this is your opportunity to take in the sights and still take it easy. The 650-foot elevation gain gives the ride some challenge, but the views are well worth the effort. Weller Lake riders will receive special gifts, making it fun for the whole family.

The Ride for The Pass: A Competitive 10-Mile Ride

As in previous years, competitive riders will be timed upon their arrival in the Independence ghost town. Most riders will complete the course in less than 2 hours, with the fastest cyclists reaching the finish line in about 40 minutes.
After the ride, participants and their guests head to the St. Regis in Aspen for an after party where everyone is welcome. Roaring Fork Valley businesses donate prizes, snacks and beverages.
