Moving to High Altitude Snowmass - Snowmass Homes for Sale
Snowmass’s elevation is just over 8,000 feet above sea level, and its highest mountain summit sits at 12,510 feet (there aren’t many homes for sale that high, though).
Snowmass residents get to experience great natural beauty… but in most cases, not without acclimating to the altitude first.

How High is “High Altitude”?

Anything 5,000 feet or more above sea level is “high altitude,” and while the numbers don’t seem to matter much, what does matter is how you allow your body to adjust to it—particularly if you’re moving here from elsewhere.
We asked the pros what you should do if you’re moving to Snowmass from a lower elevation, and here’s what they had to say.

Stay Hydrated

Drink lots of water and stay away from alcohol. Alcohol can increase symptoms of altitude sickness.

Hold Off on Daily Exercise

Wait to exert yourself until your body becomes totally adjusted to the air pressure. This could take a few weeks (and who are we to argue with science when science tells us to stay off the treadmill?).

Rest

Give your body the time it needs for sleep, and try to cut back on caffeine.
Your body gets less oxygen the higher in altitude you go, and it could take a few weeks to feel normal. You’ll want to watch for symptoms of headache, upset stomach, light-headedness, and fatigue.
