How to Change Your Voters Registration When You Move to Aspen - Aspen Homes for Sale
Moving is stressful—that’s all there is to it.
If you’re moving just a few blocks away, your To-Do list may not be as lengthy as it would if you were moving to another county or state… but no matter the scenario, working out the details can be incredibly tough.
In addition to packing your precious mementos and getting them from Point A to Point B, you’re thinking about setting up utilities, mapping out new driving routes and enrolling your children in school.
After everything is said and done, you can kick up your feet and check out the lineup from your new cable provider… that is, until a political advertisement comes on and you remember that election time is just around the corner.

How to Update Your Voter Registration in Colorado

A major item people forget to add to their list is updating their voter registration. If you have recently moved to a home in Aspen, Basalt, or any of the surrounding communities and don’t want to miss your chance to vote, don’t worry–you have a few options.
Depending on the circumstances of your move, there are different solutions and timelines.
You may register to vote through the day of the election as long as you have been a resident of Colorado for 22 days prior to the election. (Contact the Colorado Secretary of State to discuss your options.)
If you’re outside those timelines or you have moved from out-of-state, federal law allows you to vote in the presidential election through your former state of legal residence. You may do this in person or through absentee ballot, but you’ll have to check with your prior county clerk for details.
If you’re a Colorado resident and have moved outside your county, you can change your information up through the day of the election at a polling center.
Colorado has simplified the voter registration process and offers many ways to get registered ahead of time. You can register online, by mail, or in person at a local Department of Motor Vehicles location. There are many places to register to vote in the Aspen area.
