While searching for your new Aspen dream home, your thoughts may wander to how your existing furnishings will work in your new space. If you are like most people, your mind is redecorating the home you are interested in, the minute you step foot in the door. If your furniture needs updating, or your layout demands something new—why not donate your old furniture to an organization who can help a family in need?
There are a number of organizations in the Aspen area who are in need of home furnishings, household goods, clothing and even old vehicles. They will donate these items to families in need or sell them at a reduced cost and contribute a portion of the sales to the community. You can schedule a pick-up of your unwanted goods or drop them off at a location near you. Keep in mind, most of your donated goods are tax deductible at fair market value, so don’t forget to ask for a receipt.
Habitat for Humanity Roaring Fork Valley
Habitat for Humanity works to create affordable housing options for families around the world. The Habitat for Humanity Roaring Fork Valley ReStore accepts donations of home furnishings, household goods and building materials. In turn, these items are sold to the public at discounted prices and the profits are used for their housing programs.
The Thrift Shop of Aspen
With the resale of your donations, The Thrift Shop of Aspen supports many of the area nonprofits by making grants, and they also provide scholarships to Roaring Fork Valley area high school graduates. Recent grant recipients include the Advocate Safehouse, Aspen Youth Center, Basalt High School Substance Abuse Program and the Special Olympics.
Miser’s Mercantile is a second hand store that specializes in high-end clothing and housewares. They donate a portion of their sales to Advocate Safehouse, which offers services such as crisis intervention, emergency safe housing and counseling to domestic violence survivors and children.
